We went to see some Whirling Dervish’s in Istanbul, this is like a spiritual mass if you like, while you whirl it is said that The Sema (the whirling) is a means for humans to reach Divine Reality! This is where you whirl in one spot and its amazing that they do not get dizzy and fall over, so for ¾ of an hour we watched as 5 men dressed in jelly tot red hats and white cloaks whirled with arms crossed, all the while listening to Turkish music being played by a group of 7 men, mostly on instruments that we didn’t recognize!
Then on our route east we stopped for one night in Konya, the home of Mevlana Rumi, the founder of The Whirling Dervish’s ! There is the Mevlana Museum there where he is laid to rest, each year on December 7th they have a huge ceremony /festival where people come from all over the world to take part. This is the day he died, however they call it the wedding night because its a reunion of his master who died before him.
I have always loved Rumi’s poetry and what he stands for so its exciting to be in his home of Konya in Turkey and to go to the museum, it is quite something.

The name Mevlana Rumi stands for love and ecstatic flight into the infinite. Rumi is one of the great spiritual masters and poetical geniuses of mankind and was the founder of the Mevlevii Sufi order, a leading mystical brotherhood of Islam.
The Mevlevi brotherhood is founded completely on love and tolerance, I love that.
