While in Konya a guy spoke to us on the street, somehow he knew we were Canadian, it turns out that he has been in Canada quite a bit, Vancouver actually and he knew loads of places, got pictures out to show us and a Canadian flag, Canadian music it was pretty funny.
We ended up chatting and having tea for a couple of hours, then another traveller joined us who he had just met earlier that day too, from Russia, and so all four of us went to a local cafe for a real Turkish meal. We went back to his shop for more tea after dinner and got into all kinds of fun conversations that I just love about the different beliefs systems, muslims, life in turkey and how its changing, art, books, hes reading the same books as me right now, cool.
He was a very gracious and lovely guy and once again its one of the best parts of this journey we are on, the people.. Gotta give his carpet shop a plug for him its in Konya and its called “Art Gallery” and his name is Mehmet Akin, if your ever in this part of Turkey stop by for tea, he loves to chat and we hope to see him on SSI one day.
For those of you who see us on Facebook would have seen the recent post of the poem he wrote!
