Highway 120 OVER THE TOP

First we did the Tioaga pass east to west into Yosemite and stayed in a small town called Sonora not much happens there and we really didn't go there to see the town but just to enjoy the ride. We wanted  to ride over The Sonora Pass again which we had done in 2009 when we first got the bike and we remembered it to be a fantastic road in the high alpine. Well I must say it impressed us again. The smells in the pine forest and the clean fresh air make you want to pitch a tent and stay a while. The road was in excellent shape and the views from every turn had Chenty clicking the camera all the way over the top and down the other side.

These roads up here are why BMW  built the GS 1200

We run off into the Alpine forest to take a few photos

I need to spend more time off the black top as it takes a
while to get the nerves up again

Tight twisty roads are made for bikes

Around every corner there is a great photo.

And just look at those bends in the road
I think this must be biker heaven

Up to the top at 9624 ft

It tried to rain for a while but that couldn't
spoil a ride like this.

I guess you just have to be there
Back down to earth on the other side we rode onto S Lake Tahoe and found another Motel. Lots of people ask if we ever book in advance and the answer is we try not to because then you are committed to make a destination and sometimes we might just want to stay somewhere else. A good example of this is when we booked into our time share in Australia and on the very same day after we had made the booking we were invited back to stay at a bikers house we had met on the road. We had to decline the invitation but I think we both would have loved to have stayed there. We have been shown so much hospitality on the road it has on many occassions overwhelmed us both.
