A cheap place to stay in Walpole at $75.00 per night |
We got into Walpole late in the day and checked into this pub, not great but it will do, we stopped by the tourist information booth to see what there was to do in this area and they told us that we must not miss this 2 hour boat ride that leaves every day at 10am. Trevor asked, "what will we see", and the guy responded with, "its not about what you will see, its about Gerry, he is the funniest most knowledgable guy around these parts and he will keep you entertained from the minute you walk on the boat"! Ok then, so we booked, $40 each.

A very entertaining boat ride |
Next morning we loaded up the bike, got our kit on and rode down to the tourist info place where we picked up the tickets and left our bike while we went out on the boat tour. Well they were right, this guy was intensely funny and very knowledgeable, i dont think he could have been married cause Im not sure anyone could stand to live with him but he was a hoot! He was obviously from around these parts, he had been around the world in search of the connections of his family in Walpole to the rest of the world and to our amazement he found many, like the horses, the brumbys, had been taken from these parts to Israel by his ancestors and he had photos of a herd of them on the Sea of Galilee, we've been there! Then there was the connections in china, russia and on it went he was very passionate about it.

Gerry our entertainment for the two and a half
hour boat ride was hilarious. |
Then he started with the creatures around here, again he must have been a biologist too cause he knew everything about the creatures in these parts, this picture is him trying to explain about "Marsupeils" the two canes, which he took from a guest are the felopian tubes, the windex bottle is the bladder and the gas fuel pipe off the outboard engine is the tubes leading to the kidneys and the red funnel was the urethea and what he was trying to explain to us was why a "Marsupeil" which is a Kangaroo, Posum, Kuala, has its testies in front of its penis and it also has two penis's and the female kangaroo has two vaginas, trevor pipes up, "so dose that mean they can have group sex with themselves"!! Ha Ha.
He went on to explain that back 5million years how the land masses broke off and how there are marsupeils in Australia and that Canada has a Posum that is found in the Algonquin region, which just proves that these masses were once connected and when they broke off the marsupeils went along for the ride, anyway he just went on and on and it was very educational and highly amusing. Later we stopped for a walk on the beach, spotted a kangaroo and had tea and home made cake made by his dad! A must go if your in this area, what a laugh.
