After leaving Venice we headed for Cinque Terre, called the Italian Riviera, its a set of 5 villages clinging to this most inaccessible bit of coastline.
The ride there was beautiful with all the fall colors on a sunny but chilly day, we came across two mud slides as we had had the rain the few days before but we finally arrived.
Not knowing where we could park or how far into the village we were allowed with a motorized vehicle was a bit concerning but we snuck past the first parking lot and headed for the locals parking a bit closer to the town, with a motorcycle we managed to find a spot with the local scooters. We unloaded all our bags and headed for the town and our hotel, it turned out to be a great little spot right in the town but with lots of steps again, yikes. We stayed in the town of Vernazza in a place called Barbaras Auberge, Vernazza is a nice little town with a few shops and restaurants and right on the water, it is the second town in the chain of five.
One of the attractions to this area is the hikes you can do between the villages, we hiked to the next village called Monterosso it took about an hour and a half and was quite the hike, we were really hot by the time we finished so found a place for a cold beer and then onto the train to head to the last village Riomaggiore, explored that for a while and then took the boat back to Vernazza, great day.
This set of villages is really a must see for anyone visiting this area of Italy, it is so quaint and pretty, we were there in October so pretty quiet too.
