Barcelona to Andorra and thru the Pyrenees
Heaven on Earth, absolutely stunning scenery!
We decided to go to visit a small country of only 81,000 people called Andorra; I think the real truth is TREV wanted another sticker for his bike...
Comprising of only 468 sq km and famous for its skiing, tax free shopping and outstanding scenery, no shortage of money here.
Andorra is between Spain and France, we had great fun shopping there, it’s a tax free zone, it’s capital Andorra La Vella is like a mini Whistler, we spent two days here; we had to search out and buy our new GPS which we did. Trevor was in heaven because within the first 10mins of getting into the hotel and showered and out into the town he was in and out of 10 motorcycle shops, a guys heaven in itself, I guess this is big territory for bikers.
Leaving Andorra today we had a great ride into the Pyrenees in France, dramatic scenery and what beautiful countryside, I actually had several moments of euphoria, I thought to myself that I must be in heaven, I was so happy, I felt free, I have always loved this time of year anyway, the air was clear and fresh, the sun was shining, the trees had started changing color for the fall and they were just beautiful, it reminded me of home.
I have done everything in my life that I set out to do, I am proud of myself as a women as a wife and as a mother, I have rediscovered myself and why I am here, it is a great feeling and I was feeling it today as we were riding thru the beautiful mountains of the French Pyrenees and it brought tears to my eyes. There couldn’t of been a better day to be riding a bike, I could smell the fall air around us, I felt like I was being carried and like in the movie ET where the bike he was riding got carried into the skies, I thought if that happened to me at that point it would be ok cause I was so happy and felt higher than a kite, what a great feeling, Wow!
It’s probably a good job I wasn’t at the controls of the bike at that point, no I wasn’t on drugs or hadn’t been drinking, it’s just that I’m high on life!
I want to mention the route we took cause maybe one day you will be here too –
Barcelona on the motorway to Sallent then on the C16 to Baga onto the 260 to La Farga de Moles and onto the 145 into Andorra, then out the other side from Andorra La Vella (the capital) on CG3 onto CG2, best best scenery, onto Pas de le Casa and then the N20 and then on the 118 to Axat and Quillan and up to Carcassonne and finally we stayed the night in St Pons de Thomieres.
By the time we arrived it was getting late and from Carcassonne it started to get cold and foggy and it was like pea soup riding into St Pon de Thomieres, it felt like in the movie Hound of the Bascavilles, misty and spooky and our riding speed was down to about 25-30 as the roads were , narrow, winding thru the mountains so high up, we couldn’t see much at the end, but it was fun, what a great day.
Our little hotel we found was a crappy room but it had a big bathtub with lots of hot water to warm up in and the food at the restaurant was top notch, god how we love the French cuisine, the people were great and very friendly, we crashed into bed glad that we were out of the cold and fog but what a day.
Onto the town of Millau tomorrow and the famous Millau Viaduct.
