We wanted to go see the Great Barrier Reef and we had been told that the best place to take a trip from was Airly beach. Morgan our friend in Noosa had a old family friend that had a camp/caravan site up there and he called him to ask if he could help us out with accommodations.
A great place to stay in Airly Beach |
We rode into the town and Trev recognised the sign for Adventure Whitsunday so we pulled in, we went into reception and asked if Greg was in, he wasnt he had left for a family vacation, ok so we told them who we were and they said, "yes no problem, Greg told us to expect you, he has booked you into cabin 21 for an exceptionally good deal", wow, we were so thrilled that was more than we expected, we were totally greatful.
We pulled around to cabin 21, these are all individual units, it had a great layout complete with everything one needs for a couple of nights stay, including complimentary Tim Tams in the fridge and some milk, nice touch. We were most impressed with the cleanliness of the cabin and its surrounding grounds, highly recommend staying here if you are in the Whits. its just a short drive to the beach.
PS if you guys ever need a place to stay in B.C. Canada come visit us on Salt Spring Island we would love to return the favour!
There was a mall a short walk away with grocery store, beer store and a Flight Centre so we booked our tickets home from there, that was a sad afternoon after we did that, let me tell you!
A boat trip in the Whitsunday's thats what we need |
This ones too big and too many people, 150 at a time! |
This one must sail like a pig and is full of backpackers Not really our style. |
Now this one I have seen before I believe the best crew member left a couple of years ago!! and the experience has never been the same - John W.. |
More things can kill you in Australia than any other country |
OK but I want an Umbrella in mine |
Kinda like the Caribbean but not!! |
Turns out we didn't really love Airly Beach it was kind of tacky, we prefer the smaller either outback towns or at least a bit more refined. Lots of pubs, surf shops and it looked a bit run down but really
expensive at the same time. The boat we could have gone out on was $185 each for the day to snorkel, with 150 other people (like a scene from JAWS) and if you just wanted to visit the Whitsunday Islands that was $120.00 so we decided to do neither and head further north to find more sun.
