Onto Singapore where Phil flies back to Canada

Heading out of KL once we hit the motorway
there is nothing to stop for in 300+km

Another border another FLAG for Big Red

We were trying to figure out how to get to see Singapore, after many discussions it was decided that Phil would take the public transport and we would ride the bikes down to Ronnies friend “Rory’s” place in JB, we would park the bikes there and then Trev and I would take the bus into Singapore and Ronnie would come later.  Ok well this turned out to be a bad idea, I wanted to all take the bus but that was not meant to be so it turned out that it took us longer to get to Singapore than we thought and we didn’t find Philip until 11pm that night, by that time we were all hot, tired, hungry and not too pleasant with each other.

No way of communicating, I had told Phil that if we didn’t hear from each other to just meet at this particular hotel, so he went over there only to find out it was full, he stayed put anyway until we arrived, by the time we got there it was so late to be looking for hotels, plus it was Friday night and in Singapore you cant get a cab, they are all in full!  We walked for miles in the heat, Phil with his big pack on and us with our overnight stuff, I kid you not we must have tried to flag down 30 cabs and no one stopped, in the end we got a recommendation from a hotel to try the new hotel in town, so we walked some more and finally booked into the hotel for 3 days.  The price was higher than we wanted to pay but at that point we didn’t care, we just needed to shower and eat, it was already midnight!  As our heads hit the pillows I think we were all glad that that day was over!

After hours of looking we find this newly
opened hotel

No messing around here
And on another note Possession of narcotics
is punishable by Death

Places like this make me Mad
I actulay had the urge to say something here.

Inside the Fin Store
There were all types of dried up stuff that they make
soups and stuff with I didn't recognize any of these things.

There is some nice architecture here

In the Asian part of the world they have a real
 fascination for our old stuff.

Funny thing here Phil asked why we never see a
Canada Town in any of these big cities
around the world??

The next day we hopped on the MRT which is great in Singapore and went to investigate yet another part of the city, its so clean, so much money here, very nice cars driving around but that all comes with very expensive prices too.  We went over to the marine area and really enjoyed that, all built on reclaimed land they have done a very nice job of development there with the largest “eye” in the world, massive towers connected by the largest elevated swimming pool in the world sitting on top, so cool.  Being builders all three of us were mesmerized by the architecture of this place and all so “green” how they had built one massive tunnel to house all the services so that when anyone wanted to hookup to them they would never have to dig up roads for it.  It was a refreshing change to walk around and take pictures in a city where you felt like you could breath.

Taken aback with some of the building
 in this big city

A good thing here FULL ON recycling

Lots of this

And Yes everybody is being watched

Ronnie and Rory showed up later that day as Rory wanted to show us around a bit. Ronnie had met Rory  when he was travelling in Wadi Rum in Jordan over Christmas last year and he agreed to look him up when he got to Malaysia, so thats what he did and it was great because we got to leave our bike in his condo parking lot while we ventured into Singapore.

He took us for a drink to a lovely old hotel and into the “Long bar” the Singapore Sling drink was $25 Singapore dollars the equivalent to $20.00 cdn and they were dishing them out like crazy its just us cheap sods were sipping slowly, one was more than we could afford but it was so fun and we are glad we stopped in.  It was funny cause friends of ours “Lynn and Andy” had been there days before us on their travels and we didn’t know, imagine if we had bumped into them there, too funny.

What i think i loved about Singapore was that it was clean and reminded me of Vancouver. There were so many things we could have done in Singapore given we had the spare cash, like go up the towers, go on the eye, eat in fantastic restaurants as it was we ate in a fast food joint called “TGI Friday” and the steak in there was $40 Singapore dollars the place was an equivalent to the TGI Fridays at home so you can see how expensive it is here.

In your dreams Ronnie

Everybody is at it here
I think Ronnie should get some?

Then back on the MRT to Orchid  Road, ok this is home to shopping Mecca, I have never seen in all the places and cities we have travelled so far, so many high class malls and shopping centres and get this all full of shoppers, for such a tiny country i have no idea where they all get their money from.

Singapore is home to a massive Shipping Port, the second largest in the world so thats where they get most of their money from as a city.  Its connected to Malaysia via a long causeway with border crossings at each end connecting both countries.

The worlds BIGGEST shopping walk

Well maybe it was not his last

The next morning we say a sad good by to Phil
as he heads to the Airport
See you in a couple of months and don't work to hard

The next morning it was time for Phil to fly home, sad for us,  but I think he was happy to be getting back to Lisa and Maggie, we had had a great time, most fun being the quiet cheap huts/cabins we stayed in on the islands of Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Pengang and Koh Sumai, the time we had with his friends he met up with from SSI. He had seen Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore all in a month, a world win tour of SE Asia.

It was fun for him to have Ronnie around as Ronnie has the ability of making people laugh and Phil and him did plenty of that, plus they were drinking buddies staying out till 4 in the morning on one occasion, we never asked what happened that night but lets just say Phil didn’t get up that day till 4pm and Ronnie even though he didn’t let himself sleep it off, he was not himself, still under the influence i think, he came into our room and flashed his wallet saying, "well it was full when i went out, not sure how it got empty but it was a good night" and muttered something about climbing the ladder to the top of a 7 Eleven????
