From the Border to Kompong Cham

One of the many steel decked bridges
After the border we had talked about pushing on to a small town called Kratie But when  we arrived about 3.30 pm we all felt good to push on to Kompong Cham so after a short break for a drink and some of Ronnie's snacks we talked about the route with one of the guys at the restaurant  and he said the shortest road would be along the Mekong river and that it was a good road all but  about 5km of good gravel. So of we go, it was a total of 129 km  further to Kompong Cham and it meant we could do the next ride into Phnom Penh about 125 km and arrive early in time to organize our trip to Vietnam.

We hit the gravel and all went well but after about 3km the surface got real loose. Now the only thing worse than lose gravel is sand and I hate both!!

Sit down Ronnie before you fall off!!

Ronnie welcoming us back to the sealed surface

In total we were riding this stuff for more than 10 km and on several occasions I got a front wheel wobble going that had the bars pulling side to side to side in my hands NOT A GOOD FEELING. The best place to ride was on the shoulder but seeing as that had a 3 to 5 meter 45 degree drop that would end up putting us and the bike in some poor guys front yard or maybe the duck pond it was not the place to be either. So we wobbled through and kissed the black top on arrival.

We stop for a drink and to talk about going on to the next town

After the 10 km/s of gravel we were back on the sealed road and making up for lost time.
We arrived in town at about 5.30 and rode down the front street to find some were to stay.
The first place was $5.00 per night with no hot water but a secure place for the bikes. So Chenty checked one more place down the road at the same price but as it had nowhere for the bikes we checked into the Mekong Sunrise and rode the bikes into the restaurant and parked them in the back. No matter how many time I do that it is always FUN.

Ronnie nails country number 73!!
After unloading the bikes and having a cold shower Ronnie gets to put country number 73 sticker on the bike. Cambodia!!

The secured parking at the back of the restaurant

We head out to find a place to eat and before we have walked a block who do we find sitting in a restaurant having a snack but Morgan our Wheel to Wheel GS800 rider, what a surprise so we sit and share a few beers and discuss the past days ride. Ain't that what every rider loves to do.

The next day we ride with Morgan to Phnom Penh
The next morning we all saddle up together and ride the next 125 km into Phnom Penh together. Now that is a site to see. It is very interesting watching heads turn as not one but now three Big bikes ride by
