Unlike the last time we shipped the bike this time it arrived on schedule ready for pick up first thing Monday so we grabbed a cab and headed to the Airport. Now one thing we have learnt never get out the cab until you are sure you are in the right place. So many times the cab driver will tell you its just over there and when you pay and get out he has gone and you find your self doing a lot of walking. so we sat still while he struggled to find the Thai Cargo department.
When we got dropped off at the main gate we immediatly picked up what I would call a hanger on!!
I had been told clearing the bike into Thailand was easy and we would not need any assistance so when this guy started following us around and leading us from one place to another I quickly got annoyed with him, but HE couldn't speak a word of English so it was difficult to tell him thanks but no thanks. Well after we had got our security passes and were heading through the main gate I said to one of the security guys "can you tell this guy that I am not going to pay him today" and with that he vanished.
Now left to ourselves we took our air way bill to the various departments and got a massive pile of papers stamped by this person and that then had to wait while they had lunch, got photo copies of everything then at 2.00 pm we saw the crate for the first time. I think the hardest thing was getting the dam thing open, With only a claw hammer I pulled and tugged until it came apart leaving the bike sitting on the open pallet with all the gear around it.
So as for what it cost all we had to pay was 27 Baht each for our security passes and 1150 Bhat for warehouse storage fees (about $40.00) Thats a little different to arriving in India where it cost me nearly $800.00 to get the bike back.
So now outside the gate I pull over to load the GPS for out route back into Bangkok only to find out I hadn't installed the charts for this side of town so even though I had the hotel on the map there were no roads. Well Ive seen that before so we head off down the road just heading in the right direction taking any road that gets us in the direction of the dot on the screen. After stopping to get gas and put air in the tires less than an hour later we pull up at the hotel ready for a cool shower.
Yep thats the box Now all I need is an opener |
The next thing is getting the wheel in. This time I had some help from the guys in the warehouse they helped lift the front end while I got it on the center stand then Chenty was able to hold the back down while I lifted the wheel and got the shaft in line then threaded it in. Once that was done we got it off the pallet and I put the brakes back and checked that every thing was tight. Then the windshield and mirrors, reconnected the battery put the boxes back and repacked every thing and we were ready to have the bike checked by customs and leave. Now the funny thing is that when I came to check out the customs guy said he didn't want any of the paper work I had collected with various stamps and checks on it so I stuffed it in the tank bag and we left. Nobody checked the vin # or anything so I will keep all the paper untill we leave Thailand but I am sure they should have kept it.
The sweat running from me Its 35 c in the warehouse |
