The Taj Mahal was built by a prominent Parsi industrialist, Jamshedji Tata, who, it is said, decided to construct this magnificent hotel when he was barred from entering the "Whites Only" hotel,
"The Watsons Hotel".
The Taj Mahal still remains today one of Asia's grandest hotels while "The Watson" is now a dilapidated building and the hotel closed down long ago, Poetic Justice Id say!
This of course is "the" hotel that had a terrorist attack on it back in 2009, they managed to capture/kill all of the terroists and all hostages were fine. The same day as this attack on the Taj they also attacked a very busy tourist restaurant and the train station. We had lunch in the restaurant and you can still see the bullet hole.
