Florence

Florence is the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. Politically, economically, and culturally it was just about the most important city in Europe for something approaching 250 years – from sometime before 1300 until the early 1500s. Opera was invented in Florence, and then there was the Medici Family, perhaps the most important family that ever lived – the family that changed the world more than any other. Forget all the art they paid for, they taught first the other Italians how to conduct state, and then they taught the rest of the Europeans.

We underestimated this city, had we known what it had to offer we would have planned to stay longer, plus it was unfortunately pouring with rain when we were there too. Lots of museums, art galleries, churches, shopping and markets, we got out of the rain in the Accademia Gallery where Michelangelos “David” is housed, quite impressive, the statue itself is huge, the romans were big..

I know ive said this before on our blog but so cool to be actually in Italy in Florence with so much history.

While wondering the city with our brollies we came across the Vecchio Bridge, its been added onto on the sides so canterlevers over the river, used to be housed with butcher shops but now it has mostly gold jewelery shops, Trev got some cool shots of it.
