Cobh in Ireland
Cobh has one of the worlds deepest natural harbours, it was also the last port for the illfated Titanic, it sailed from here and was never to be seen again. Its a bustling little town full of fishing boats, cruise ship docks, restaurants, churches and lots of shops, very fun to explore.
We stayed in a great B & B called Knockeven House, www.knockevenhouse.com built in 1840 it had 5 guest rooms and was set on 3 acres, the brochure read “Guests will always be welcomed and treated as esteemed visitors in this private home”, and we were, it was really beautifully decorated and the breakfast was to die for, only $90 eruo incl breaky. The owners were lots of fun, as soon as we arrived we were invited into the sitting room and we chatted about what we had done so far and about the rest of our trip. The Irish are so friendly and genuinely interested in what you are doing etc. I love their accents and their excitement for sharing their country and their lives.
Pam, the owner, told me all about this cooking school, its amazing and its just ½ hr from the guesthouse, for my culinary friends and family reading this, check out this blog, www.cookingisfun.ie this lady is a real business woman and this is a real business, i figure someone should be doing this on Salt Spring Island!! I would love to go some day. Its in a town called Shanagarry and you can go for a day or 12 weeks but its pricey the school is called Ballymaloe Cookery School, if you go for the 12 week course it will run you 9,995.00 eruos. Yeh and i didn’t put my decimal in the wrong spot either.
