One thing I wanted to do was dive on the great barrier reef but after spending a bit of time researching that I realized it was not going to happen unless we went further north than Cairns and as we were running out of time I realized I had to change the plan.

Check out this dive on line it is rated as one
of the best in he world |
So Google here we go. I asked Google what the ten best dive sites are in the world were and this came up as #1 and as we were only three hours away from this site off we went.

Our transportation to the beach |
Luckily they had one spot left for the afternoon run the following day so I booked in and we went and found a place to stay in the small town of Ayr.

Twelve people in the back of a Land-rover |
One of the things about this dive is it is classed as a very deep dive. The wreck went down in 27 meters of water so the dive shop wants you to have at least a master diver certification. OK I don't have that but because I have so many years of diving under my belt (from 1988) they figured I should know what I was doing.
Most of the other people on the trip had less than 20 dives but they were all ready taking their dive master certification. Did I mention I don't like going to school!!!

Launching the inflatable right on the beach |
The trip out to the wreck only took 30 mins and once we got tied to the buoy that marked the wreck it didn't take long to get us all in the water.
|
The boat is launched complete with us all in it |
|
With twin 200 HP motors on the back we are
at the dive site in 30 mins |
I did two dives on the SS Yongla and other than the fact that the vis could have been better I have never seen so many BIG fish.
|
Lots of BIG rays |
There is a resident grouper on the wreck that they call VW, and let me tell you I have never seen a fish that big.

Back at the beach after a great dive |
I would definitely recommend this dive and the crew that took us out were very professional. Thanks guys I had a great time.
