Getting the Bike out of Australia

This is the fifth time we have shipped the bike so we are getting used to the routine. I think the hardest thing is deciding who is going to do the job for you then once that is done it is all down hill from there. Menzies is a company we contacted while we were in Sydney.  They have offices in all the main cities in Aus  and Justin from the Sydney office was one of the first people we contacted and at the time we were trying to ship the bike to Alaska as we wanted to ride home from there. However, as we have found out on this trip not every thing goes as planned and we have learnt to adjust our sail at times like this.

The cost to get the bike to Alaska was twice that of getting it to LA and as everything going to the USA from Aus goes to LAX first we figured we would adjust our plans and ride back from there. Just a note we could also have had the bike flown into Vancouver but neither Chenty nor myself considered that to be an option.

After all these miles we had to ride home, flying in was not going to work!!!!

Here we go again
The other thing we really wanted was to get as far north in Aus as we could so when we found that Menzies had a office in Brisbane and that they would ship out of there for very little extra that is what we decided to do. We would spend extra time on the bike in the lovely sunshine of the northen winter and we wouldn't have to ride back to Sydney to ship the bike. That would also have meant riding the same road twice and that is something we try to avoid at all cost.
This is the fifth time we have done this
So I contacted the Brisbane office and spoke to Rob Ashcroft and we had a shipper. Rob was very good and well organized we made a commitment to have the bike at the warehouse first thing on the monday morning and he would have the crate there waiting for us. We returned to Morgans in Noosa and spent the last few days with him then monday morning we were up early and heading to the warehouse. Arriving at 10.00 am as agreed everything was ready and we were left in the corner of the warehouse to disassemble the bike and get it on the pallet. I might add it was very pleasant being left to do it ourselvs as many times before we had felt rushed as so many people wanted to help and even though help is good when we are taking the bike apart it is much easier to do it on our own.

The only thing we need help with is lowering the bike off the centre stand after I have the wheel out, its very heavy at that point.
In less than ninety minutes
That all done we find some cling wrap in the warehouse and give the bike a complete wrap around. This time we are shipping with on open sided crate so we are concerned about things falling-out and also unwanted hands getting in.

Its a wrap
After we have the bike done we head to the office to get the paper work done and deliver the Carnet to Rob so he can get it stamped out of Aus.
Just have to deal with the paper work
All that done we arrange to pick up the paper work from Menzies office on our way to the airport on the Wednesday morning and we will see the bike in LA on the same day we arrive.
Rob from Menzies
The man to deal with if you need to move a bike
The bike flew from Brisbane to Sydney overnight then went on Delta cargo Sydney to LAX.
See next post for how that went, not exactly according to the plan?
