Lisbon – Portugal
We spent 4 days in Lisboa, its another big city set up like Paris, a centre with lots of streets going off from there, the Ibis Hotel where we stayed was a good ½ hour walk to the centre. Lots of restaurants, lots of ritzy stores with big names, a bit like i imagine Milan to be like. This time we got smart and took the Hop on Hop off bus tour around for the whole day and got ourselves orientated, it was a really hot day that day then the next day we did a few sights.
We went to a great show at Cafe Luso, this is located within the arched vaults of the stables and cellars of the XVII th century palace of St. Rogue who survived the earthquake of 1755, the Cafe Luso was created in the 1930’s and has staged the greatest names of Fado and has helped to reveal the Portuguese musical culture. It was a fun night with dancers, music and great food! We sat next to a Canadian couple from Montreal and again it was nice to speak in English. Lisboa was almost all destroyed in the earthquake of 1755 other than a small area where this cafe/palace sat.
